About me
Hi, I’m Terri, the face behind Oakyarde Cakes.
Like many parents, I know all about the joyful chaos that comes with raising children, and it was family life that first led me into cake making. It all started when my daughter, Ava, happily dived into a shop-bought cake on her first birthday. By the time she turned three, I had decided I wanted to bake her a homemade cake for her next celebration, and that was the beginning of Oakyarde Cakes.
With plenty of determination, a growing love for baking, and more than a few YouTube tutorials, I began teaching myself and developing my skills. Making Ava’s fourth birthday cake felt like a real milestone, and from there things quickly started to grow. My younger sister, who was on maternity leave at the time, encouraged me to share my work on social media, and with her support I took the next steps by registering with the council, getting insured, and officially launching the business under the name Oakyarde Cakes, inspired by our family home.
Now, three years on, I have created hundreds of cakes, cupcakes and sugar cookies for all kinds of special occasions. Over time, I have also taught myself how to make fondant models and toppers, which has allowed me to offer an even wider variety of bespoke designs.
What began as a homemade birthday cake for my daughter, who is now 7, has grown into a business I am incredibly proud of. I feel so grateful to have met so many lovely customers along the way, and it means so much to be trusted to create cakes for such special moments in people’s lives.
