Privacy notice

This notice explains how Oakyarde Cakes uses personal information when you browse this website, enquire about a cake or place an order.

Who to contact

Oakyarde Cakes is responsible for the personal information described here. Contact Terri at terri@oakyardecakes.co.uk or write to Oakyarde Cakes, 8 Bunting Close, Newton Abbot, Devon, TQ12 6BU.

Information you share

When you enquire, we receive the details you enter, such as your name, email address, telephone number, celebration date, venue, guest numbers, flavours, budget, ideas and any inspiration photographs you upload. Required fields help us respond to your enquiry. Please only upload pictures you have permission to share and avoid including unnecessary personal information.

How we use your information

We use your details to respond, check availability, prepare a quote and arrange your cake. Processing a quote or order is necessary to take steps at your request before a contract and to fulfil an order. We also have a legitimate interest in answering general correspondence, keeping a record of enquiries and protecting the website from misuse. Where applicable, order and payment records are retained to meet legal accounting obligations.

We do not use enquiry or customer details for marketing.

Where enquiries are stored

The website sends enquiries by email and keeps a backup copy in WordPress. These copies help us refer to an enquiry and recover it if an email is missed. Access is restricted to authorised website administrators. Website backups may also contain enquiry records.

How long information is kept

WordPress enquiry backups currently have no automatic expiry date. Keeping a copy does not mean that your details will be used for marketing. Retention depends on whether information is still needed to handle your enquiry or order, resolve a query, or meet a legal record-keeping obligation. You can contact Terri to ask about the information held or request deletion. Some information may need to be kept where there is an applicable legal obligation or an unresolved claim.

Service providers and website security

Services that operate the website, hosting, email, security and backups may process information to provide those services. We do not sell your personal information.

The enquiry form uses Google reCAPTCHA to help prevent spam. Google may process technical information such as your IP address and browser information, including on systems outside the UK. See Google’s Privacy Policy and Terms of Service for details. Website and security services may also record technical access information to protect the site.

Cookies and external links

The website uses cookies and similar technologies for its features and preferences. You can manage the choices offered through the website’s Cookie Settings control and your browser settings. Links to services such as Google, Instagram, Facebook and WhatsApp take you to services with their own privacy information.

Your rights

Depending on the circumstances, you can ask to access or correct your information, request deletion, restrict its use, object to processing based on legitimate interests, or receive information you provided in a portable format. Contact Terri using the details above to make a request. These rights may be subject to legal exceptions.

If you have a concern, please contact us first. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO).
